New Zealand Fern Flag 180x90cm
The Silver fern. A national treasure of a flag.
In the South African Boer War of 1899 – 1902, the N.Z. Army first saw overseas service and wore fern leaf badges. By WWII the fern leaf was the prominent badge in the Army and appears now in the badges of most Army units, forming the wreath surrounding the central badge in regimental colours. The “All Blacks” Rugby team first played overseas (NSW) in 1884 and wore a gold fern leaf on blue jerseys. This changed in 1905 to a silver fern on the now famous black uniform.
