Between 1939 and 1941 the Royal Australia Navy's operations against the Axis of Germany, Italy and Vichy French saw much of the fleet operating far from Australia, but with Japan's declaration of war in December 1941 Navy's focus turned to the protection of Australian and the War in the Pacific. In 1942 navy lost five major ships - four in the war against Japan. On 9 August HMAS Canberra was lost at the Battle of Savo Island in actions to protect the Marine landing force at Guadalcanal. She remains Australia's biggest ship lost in combat.
This badge measures 20mm and is secured with a durable butterfly pin and is presented on a sturdy card with historic details.
